When creating your email newsletters you can keep in mind five simple rules:

  1. Keep them easy to download and read, simple, straightforward, and pleasing to the eye

Keep you email newsletter simple, concise and honest. E-mails packed with irrelevant articles, excessive advertising or links to external web sites are likely to be perceived by your audience as self-serving on behalf of the sender and will result in a proportion of your recipients deleting your newsletter without reading it or even worse, unsubscribing completely from your mailing list.

Your email newsletter should be optimised in terms of content, code and imagery so your recipients do not take an excessive amount of time to download it - this is especially relevant for increasingly popular HTML newsletters.

If your recipients see a poorly designed and constructed newsletter with images that take an excessive amount of time to download or are broken, they are likely to unsubscribe from your mailing list.
